The studio behind ambivalence

Dev Bot is a UK-based product studio focused on civic intelligence software. We design, build, and operate tools that help public sector organisations develop their people through story, data, and research-informed learning design.

Founder

Will Pearson

Will brings together experience in public sector learning and development with a deep interest in how software can be used to tell better civic stories.

Dev Bot started as a side project exploring the intersection of narrative design and professional development. It grew into a full product studio when it became clear that the public sector deserved learning tools built with the same care and craft as consumer software.

What we believe

Training in the public sector has been underserved for too long. The tools are often generic, the content is often dull, and the measurement is often meaningless. We think it should be better than that.

We believe that learning works best when it's wrapped in story — not gamified with points and streaks, but genuinely narrative. Our episodes are animated fables about the realities of civic work: the politics, the trade-offs, the human dimension of policy and governance.

We believe that assessment should be transparent and portable. That's why every badge we issue is a signed Open Badges 3.0 credential — verifiable, shareable, and owned by the learner, not the platform.

We believe that civic news and professional development are two sides of the same coin. Understanding what's happening in the sector makes you better at your job. That's why ambivalence combines a real-time news intelligence layer with structured learning content.

How we work

Dev Bot operates as a lean product studio. Our toolchain is purpose-built: ScriptHub for episode authoring, SoundBox for media production and content orchestration, and ambivalence as the consumer-facing platform. Each tool in the chain is designed to work with AI assistance, enabling a small team to produce at a scale that would traditionally require a much larger operation.

We're based in the UK and our primary market is UK local government — 353 councils, 2.3 million workers — but our platform is multilingual and territory-aware. We've already localised for the UAE and have infrastructure in place for French, German, and Japanese.
